Disney Appmates Toy Cars and the Apple iPad 2 Interaction Video

We are witnessing the next evolution of the Apple iPad 2 and games. Disney has created a new game called Disney AppMATes, which is a new Mobile Application Toy for the iPad. This is pretty cool, because unlike a standard iPad app that is a game you control by tilt or moving your fingers on the screen, this one interacts with special Disney toy cars that you roll on the iPad itself. If you roll the car forward, the game moves forward. You can turn, jump and interact with various other scenes in the game. The game, based on Pixar's Cars, includes the vehicle characters from the Cars 2 movie that you can play on your iPad with physical movements. Very cool!

Above, you can see a video of how the game works. You can download this game for free from the Apple App Store, but the cars will cost you $19.99, which isn't bad at all considering the cost of toys. The $19.99 package includes a set of two cars. Disney Appmates toys will go on sale starting October 1, just in time for the holidays.

Now the question is... who's going to allow their toddler to play with their $600 iPad? :)

Forza 4 with XBox Kinect lets do you virtual walk arounds

Wow! I just saw this Youtube video of Forza 4 with the XBox Kinect that allows you to move your body and your arms to do walk arounds of cars, get out of cars, get back into it. Pretty amazing. It looks pretty smooth here in the demo, but I wonder how accurate it will be in production, especially when you have people behind you or people around you that might be moving, and have the XBox Kinect pick up other people's motions.

I found another video that gives more information and looks to be from E3

It looks like the Kinect has some kind of head tracking feature to determine where you're looking, and base your vision or direction on that. It also has voice recognition features to help you navigate the menu. We're happy Microsoft has kept the Kinect as an accessory as opposed to a gaming platform. Keep at it Microsoft!
