Google Driverless Car Explained Video
How does Google's car drive itself? We have wondered this ourselves and luckily Sebastian Thrun explains on this YouTube video just how it works. Cars that drive themselves are going to be the norm in the future, especially for the wealthy. The car Google used to develop the self driving car is a Toyota Prius and also a less known Volkswagen Touareg.
Google has driven 140,000 miles on this driverless car, in all conditions and situations from highways to city streets to build the ultimate car that can drive itself, park itself, and navigate itself using GPS technology as well as cameras and sensors that tell it who or what is around the vehicle at any time to ensure the car is safe and does not hit any pedestrians. This car has driven from San Francisco to Los Angeles in both day and night, and tight mountain roads all without an accident.
Just imagine... no more worrying about drinking and driving. If you had too many, your car could detect your blood alcohol level and drive you home!
Sebastian Thrun lost a friend to a car accident and has made it his life mission to save 1,000,000 people a year from car accidents. He hasn't succeeded - yet - but this is is his progress report.
This is the wave of the future, and the government is going to be a big buyer of self driving cars, as they can use the technology in war.
